Follow me on my journey to complete the 2012 Boston Marathon!

About Me

I guess I consider myself a runner. Maybe a runner at heart. I'm not extremely fast, but like trying to improve my times. I started running a lot after college. When my butt became stuck to a desk chair and my eyes glued to a computer for 8 + hours a day, I needed an outlet, a way to escape the sedation. I can tell you, the publishing industry requires little movement. My obsession started with 30 minute treadmill runs (all that I felt I could fit into my daily schedule at the time) and continued to insane distances of 5 then 10, then to a half marathon. I was hooked.

Running has become my way of thinking, my way of not thinking, my way of moving. It's relaxing, challenging, painful, and humbling all at once. Last year running took on a new meaning for me. My grandmother passed away  from breast cancer and the doctors removed a suspicious, but thankfully benign lymph node from my neck. Running became a way for me to prove my health and feel good about my body.

I told myself that if I successfully ran a half marathon injury-free, then I would apply to run the Boston Marathon in 2012. Well, low and behold, after the Run to Remember in May, I have been accepted to run on the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. I feel lucky to be part of such a distinguished group and for a cause that means so much to me. I will run in honor of my grandmother and in honor of all of those who have lost their lives to cancer, those who have survived and to promote awareness.

Feel free to leave me comments, suggestions, words of inspiration (yes, please!) along the journey!
